Mode Momente. Fotografinnen im Fokus
Neoteric, exhibition view

Drawing on the historical work of photographer Dora Kallmus (Atelier d’Ora), the exhibition “Mode Momente” presents works by Austrian female photographers situated at the intersection of art and fashion photography. Through internationally significant works, the exhibition explores both the tensions and the points of contact between commercial commissioned work in the context of the fashion industry and contemporary artistic practice. The exhibition also addresses the construction of role models, gender issues, and stereotypes in fashion photography, thereby touching on questions regarding the social significance of photography and advertising in the realm of contemporary fashion imagery.

“Fashion Moments: Women Photographers in Focus” is the first museum exhibition to center contemporary artistic creation from Austria at the intersection of photography and fashion. It focuses on the “female” gaze at the intersection of fashion, art, and photography, which is examined in its diverse facets within the framework of the exhibition. In selected series, the featured artists address themes such as eroticism, body ideals, and the ambivalence of beauty; the woman as object; traces of time; and transience. Time and again, references to art history also emerge in these works of such diverse conception.

A catalog accompanying the exhibition was published by Fotohof edition Salzburg, featuring essays by Annette Geiger, Ursula Guttmann, and Gabriele Hofer-Hagenauer.
