The blurring of sensory perception and the exploration of perspectives are the focal points of the collaboration between Elena Kristofor and Laura Sperl. In the summer of 2021, they carried out an extensive project that combines the disciplines of performance, photography, and video. To do so, they went into the forest and brought the fog with them. The multi-part project intertwines the two remarkable spaces of “forest” and “fog” and invites visitors to immerse themselves in a new sensory experience.
A photographic series explores the physical experience of the fog-forest space, which undergoes a fundamental transformation in the fog. The sense of sight is suspended or severely impaired, prompting the development of an alternative way of experiencing space.
The 7-minute video work “drch Nbl,” whose title alludes to fog’s tendency to swallow up much, tells of the encounter and eventual merging with this natural phenomenon. The performer awakens in the forest, where she encounters her counterpart, the fog. In a subtle and dance-like manner, they get to know each other, inspiring one another before ultimately uniting.
The fog follows the artists into the exhibition space and invites all visitors to approach the photographs and the projection. The fog in the images and in the film blurs with the fog in the physical space, weaving everyone into a mystical world.
