“It has happened that airplanes flew upside down when they emerged from the clouds” is an exhibition project by Elena Kristofor and Laura Sperl that explores the confusion of sensory perception and the exploration of perspectives. The exhibition takes place from July 26–31, 2021, at the Sehsaal and marks the first part of the collaboration between the two artists.
On display are photographic works that are installed in new contexts and incorporate performative elements. The photographs interact with the space, facilitating a fluid transition from two- to three-dimensionality. The exhibition invites visitors to explore while also playing with imagination and associations.
Visitors are invited to explore the exhibition space and forge a path that opens up new perspectives through their own perception and movement. The intention is to create a space that challenges the boundaries of our perception.
Drawing on her background in architecture and photography, Elena Kristofor explores the concept of space and seeks an expanded exterior. Starting from the body, reflection takes place through intervention and site-specific installations. For the artist Laura Sperl, the process of observation and self-perception plays a major role, as does the interplay of distance and proximity. Many of her works deal with how these perceptual processes manifest themselves in the physical body.
